Coca-Cola FEMSA unveils its innovative and state-of-the-art plant in Colombia

Mexico City, June 05, 2015. – With an investment exceeding US$250 million, Coca-Cola FEMSA opened its new and modern bottling plant in Tocancipa, Colombia. This action reinforces the company’s solid sustainability platform, contributing to the economic and social development of the region.

This new plant for non-alcoholic beverages is part of FEMSA Industrial Park, a cluster of five companies dedicated to the assembly of beverages. The Park has an approximate extension of 30 hectares.

“In 2013, we announced the construction of this new Coca-Cola FEMSA plant as one of the most important projects of our company.  This plant is part of FEMSA Industrial Park and today, we are proud to open it as another example of the commitment our organization has to the country. This new plant is an example of state-of-the-art engineering. The height of the manufacturing plant; the anti-fracture internal flooring system; the minimum interference of columns; the characteristics of its foundations; the power supply structure; and the water reutilization system are some of the features that make this plant an example of advanced industrial architecture,” said Mr. John Santa Maria, CEO of Coca-Cola FEMSA.

This operation will boost the creation of jobs in the region by hiring over 60% Colombian employees. We opened 800 new jobs during the plant’s construction alone, and we estimate the creation of 450 new direct and indirect jobs throughout FEMSA Industrial Park.

Design, vanguard, innovation, and sustainability are all attributes that define the Tocancipa Plant. The construction of this Colombian manufacturing plant involved the implementation of German, Italian, Spanish, Argentinian, American, and Colombian technologies. In Phase I, the plant has an installed capacity for 75 million unit cases per year in two large production lines. As of July 2015, Phase II will offer three additional medium-sized lines with a capacity for 55 million unit cases per year. At the same time, the Tocancipa project joins the production centers located in the cities of Bogota, Medellin, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla, Cali, and La Calera.

The new bottling plant is a collection of 110+ innovations in civil engineering, control systems, management, and technology; the Sustainability platform, to which the project is integrated, represents progress in regards to water and energy savings, decrease of our carbon footprint, and sustainable packaging.

To maintain Coca-Cola FEMSA’s commitment to the generation of economic, social, and environmental value and to provide a positive transformation for the communities where we are present, we also invested US$1 million in the development of social and environmental programs in Tocancipa.
