Coca-Cola FEMSA: Number One Company in Environmental Awards

Mexicaltzingo, State of Mexico, June 3, 2019 – In view of World Environment Day, the Attorney for Environmental Protection of the State of Mexico (PROPAEM in Spanish) granted the “Clean Industry” award to 20 Coca-Cola FEMSA operating units, positioning it as the company with the largest number of awards in the territory.

This certificate is granted to companies that have the best practices and high standards in the use and proper management of water, energy, hazardous and non-hazardous waste and the reduction of emissions to the atmosphere, as well as a constant commitment to improve their work processes for the benefit of environmental care.

To achieve these distinctions, the company has carried out different actions to reduce its environmental footprint, such as its National Program for Reforestation and Water Harvesting, through which, as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, it has planted more than 79 million trees in Mexico and more than 4.4 million, enabled 3 water collection pots and installed 18 community cisterns in the State of Mexico specifically.

In addition to this, the company has sewage treatment plants in all its manufacturing centers with the aim of reusing and returning to the planet 100% of the water it uses in its processes, as well as integrating renewable energy in its work centers, contributing to the diminishment of its environmental footprint.

“We are convinced that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility, in which each and every one of us: society, business and government, are part of the solution to climate change that we are facing today. At Coca-Cola FEMSA we strive every day to incorporate the best processes that allow us to continue contributing to the care of the environment through innovation, technology and the promotion of a responsible environmental culture”, said José Luis Lozano, Legal Manager of Coca-Cola FEMSA Mexico.

In the State of Mexico, Coca-Cola FEMSA has five production plants (one of which is considered one of the largest manufacturing centers in the Coca-Cola System worldwide) and 15 distribution centers. It distributes to more than 160,000 points of sale and generates more than 90,200 jobs in its value chain, of which more than 8,200 are direct and are 82,000 indirect.

Taking care of the environment is a job for everyone. Every effort counts. Together we can make the difference.
