Mexico City, September 20, 2021.- FEMSA, Coca-Cola FEMSA, OXXO, Solistica and FEMSA Foundation, with the purpose of creating economic, social and environmental value in the communities in which they operate, -alongside strategic allies such as Banco de Alimentos de México and the state authorities and municipalities – deployed a series of actions to support thousands of families affected by Hurricane “Grace” in the state of Veracruz.

This coordinated work has allowed the delivery of almost 1,500 food pantries, 4,500 sheets of zinc for home recovery and more than 5,000 cans of clean water to the families of KOF employees and to the most affected communities in Veracruz. A contingency plan was also developed to help employees and their families to guarantee the supply of hydrating beverages for the population.

At the same time, in coordination with the municipal authorities and the State Civil Protection Secretariat, and with the support of OXXO plaza Poza Rica, two water treatment vehicles were activated, one from Coca-Cola FEMSA and the other from FEMSA Foundation, which in only 17 days of operation have delivered 182,700 liters of purified water, benefitting more than 8,300 families from Veracruz. This water treatment vehicle is expected to stay operating in the area.

These vehicles were active until Saturday, September 18, supporting remote communities that still don’t have access to water. Also, in cooperation with Banco de Alimentos de México, 2,000 food pantries will be distributed to affected families. OXXO Plaza Coatzacoalcos has already donated 30 pantries to affected communities, and OXXO Plaza Poza Rica has delivered 415 more.

A collection of FEMSA group has gotten 845 bank transfers. Coca-Cola FEMSA México has committed to donating two pesos for every peso donated by its collaborators. With the amount collected, pantry cards will be given to those who continue to experience the effects of the hurricane.

“It is always said that unity is strength, but sometimes when you hear a phrase so much, the truth in it gets lost, as well as its depth. However, when we see so many people acting together for a common goal, we can feel how together we can overcome any adversity. In this cause everyone was important: from those who contributed a resource, to those who carried out actions in the state and those who worked with other enthusiastic organisms that immediately joined in to help”, said Catherine Reuben, Director of Coca-Cola FEMSA Mexico.

“We have the conviction of being a good neighbor in the communities where we operate, and we are proud to be able to help more than 1,700 with their food and basic needs products. We believe that the sum of wills is key to positively impact our communities, which is why we join in bringing the VenxAgua water treatment vehicle, so we can face this emergency together. We restate our commitment to continue supporting and contributing to our neighbors”, said Odilón Nava, OXXO Poza Rica Manager.

Through these actions, FEMSA, FEMSA Foundation, OXXO, Coca-Cola FEMSA and Solistica seek to contribute to the speedy recovery of the state of Veracruz, after the hurricane.
