OXXO Shares its Experience as a Good Neighbor in Quintana Roo in the Add to Multiply 2019 Forum

Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico, May 31st 2019. – “Each year OXXO invests in the development of community development projects in Quintana Roo, focused on three lines of action: rehabilitation of public spaces, care for the environment and the promotion of sports,” said Juan De Vere Rangel, Plaza Cancún Manager, during the Add to Multiply 2019 Forum. “For 40 years our operations have collaborated with our communities with the aim of creating shared economic and social value. Social investment, citizen participation, donation to food banks, support for the development of local suppliers, connecting our clients with civil society organizations through our OXXO Customers Rounding program, among many other actions, allow us to improve the quality of life of the communities where we operate”, he kept on explaining.

Among the activities carried out by OXXO, the community and volunteering actions are the ones that stand out, through which OXXO collaborators, alongside their families and friends, donate their time, talent and effort to the service of the community. In 2018, in Quintana Roo, twelve community and voluntary actions were carried out in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Solidaridad, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Chetumal, with a total investment of more than one million pesos, benefiting more than 151,000 people.

Every year OXXO operates the OXXO Customers Rounding Program, through which the company serves as a bridge between its customers and the institutions of Quintana Roo. During 2018, more than 2.5 million pesos were distributed to 6 institutions, among which are the Cozumel Red Cross, Save the Children and the Down Syndrome of Cancun A.C, reaching more than 2,230 people thanks to the customers’ donations.

In addition to that, last year the first Directed Labor Training Center was opened in Cancun, with the aim of expanding job opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. During 2018 two generations graduated and six people were hired to join OXXO stores in Cancun.

On the other hand, OXXO has encouraged physical activation through the first edition of its OXXO Race “Kilometers for my City”, held in September 2018 in Cancun, with the participation of more than 500 people. The first edition of the “OXXO-DIF Benito Juárez Cup” soccer tournament was also held, in synergy with the municipality of Benito Juárez and the Sports Institute; more than 400 young people participated, making up 24 teams.

The Add to Multiply 2019 Forum was attended by authorities of the State Social Development Secretary; the Private Assistance Board; the Human Rights Commission of Quintana Roo; and different associations, such as a Collective for Social Impact; Network of Organizations of the Civil Society of Cozumel; Cozumel Community Foundation; Cozumel Foundation; ADO Foundation; Oasis Foundation; and Dolphin Discovery Foundation, among others.
