  • The BID-FEMSA 2020 Award for innovation in water, sanitization and solid residues grants up to US$10 thousand to three winners.

Washington, June 29th, 2020. The Inter-American Development Bank and FEMSA Foundation issued the announcement for the BID-FEMSA 2020 Award, which since 2009 recognizes the most innovative solutions in the sectors of water, sanitization and solid residue management in Latin America.

This year the BID-FEMSA Award will take place in a virtual format completely through www.premiobidfemsa.com. For this edition, the Award will grant a prize of US$10 thousand to each winner of the three categories of 2020: Water, Sanitization and Solid Residues. The innovative solution for water, sanitization and/or solid residues that presents a way to create solutions related with COVID-19 in an original manner will be recognized as well.

The BID-FEMSA Award granted by the division of water and sanitization of IDB and FEMSA Foundation, recognizes each year the most innovative solutions with demonstrated results to overcome deficiencies and challenges in the sectors of water, sanitization and solid residue management in Latin America. Since 2009 it is awarded to enterprises, products, initiatives or creative and innovative services that already have an impact and positive demonstrable results in these sectors.

The challenge is open since June 25th until August 9th, 2020. The requirements and electronic form to participate are available in the official page of the BID-FEMSA 2020 competition at www.premiobidfemsa.com in English and Spanish. The organizations or enterprises that wish to participate can present their solution in the four official languages of the IDB (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) and refer their questions to agua@iadb.org.

Innovations with solution development or products that have been implemented and in execution for a minimum time of 6 months and a maximum of four years since the opening of this announcement. As in previous years, all participants must present as part of their inscription a video no longer than two minutes that explains their innovative solution.

The Award will be given in a live virtual ceremony at the beginning of December 2020, in which the finalists will have the opportunity of presenting their solution to the judges and the public.

An initial jury of experts in the water and sanitation sector will select a maximum of seven (7) participating solutions as finalists, which will be invited to the final round to compete for the first place in each category of the contest. The selected finalists will compete presenting their solution in a pitch by fire format of 2 minutes maximum before a final jury of experts and leaders of the sector at an international level, which will choose the three winners.
