FEMSA protects its collaborators in Mexico facing the COVID-19 sanitary emergency

  • More than 24 thousand employees in a vulnerable situation in Mexico were sent home with payment included.
  • The personnel that continues operating has hygiene and personal protection items, following health monitoring, social distancing measures and high cleanliness standards.

Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. July 5th, 2020. – Facing the COVID-19 sanitary emergency, FEMSA and its Business Units have kept their workforce of more than 300 thousand collaborator on the 13 countries where it operates. Moreover, to protect its employees in Mexico, they established since the beginning of the pandemic that a little more than 24 thousand collaborators remain at home, with payment, to prevent a possible contagion.

Of this group, there are 18,779 collaborators with operative responsibilities that remain at home without undertaking the activities with which they usually contribute to the mission of the company, for now. They are people 60 years or older, pregnant women or in lactating period, employees with chronic, cardiovascular, immune or respiratory diseases and disabled workers.

Similarly, 5,354 collaborators of groups in vulnerable situations carry out activities from home to continue with their professional development.

In FEMSA, health and security are the priority. Which is why, since the beginning of the pandemic collaborators were asked to follow the security, sanitary and personal hygiene measures recommended by the World Health Organization and the Health Secretariat. Additionally, they implemented a series of actions to protect the collaborators and their families, as well as customers and consumers.

The collaborators in administrative roles work from home since approximately three months ago, as much as the nature of their activities allow. Regarding the personnel that continues operating, aligned with the situation of each locality and work center, it has products of personal hygiene such as antibacterial gel, protocols of medical attention, and are under a regular monitoring of their state of health. Preventive measures have also been promoted along with hygiene for home and transport.

In OXXO, OXXO GAS and Farmacias YZA the cleanliness of frequent contact points was also intensified, the input for food and coffee were restricted and social distancing measures were implemented. For their part, in Coca-Cola FEMSA the protocols of operative continuity were activated, where aspects such as quality security and innocuousness of the product, among others, were reinforced. Meanwhile in FEMSA Strategic Businesses operative contingency plans have been activated which contemplate measures and specific actions, as well as hygiene protocols in the workcenter, storage, and vehicles used for distribution.

For nearly 130 years, FEMSA and its Business Units have contributed to the economic and social development of the regions where it is present, helping elevate the life quality of the more than 300 thousand families that integrate them and transforming in a positive way the communities. This is why, facing the pandemic, we continue supplying food and drink to customers and consumers, while also carrying out support actions to the community through delivery of items to health personnel and vulnerable populations directly and through initiatives such as Juntos por la Salud (Together for Health), Contagia Solidaridad (Infect Solidarity), Unir y Dar (Unite and Give) and the Solidary Campana-Altamira Network, among others.
