Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. October 18, 2021. – This Thursday, October 14, the exhibitions from FEMSA Collection that are part of the cultural offer of the 2021 Cervantino International Festival were inaugurated. The festival takes place from October 13 to 31 in Guanajuato capital and other cities of the entity.

On this occasion, through FEMSA Foundation FEMSA will offer a cultural program, which will have two exhibitions called ‘The first rain in the desert. FEMSA Collection-IECG Dialogues’, and ‘The nature of our encounters. FEMSA Collection’s Video Art at the MAHG’.

These are part of the visual arts program of the Festival, which consists of 24 exhibitions of photography, painting, sculpture, popular art, pre-Hispanic art, video art and digital art. This effort is possible thanks to the collaboration between museums in Guanajuato, public institutions in Coahuila and Cuba, and other organizations that promote cultural dissemination.

“In these times that require resilience, more than 40 years after FEMSA Collection was founded we’ve had to find new ways to reinvent ourselves and to continue promoting education through the dissemination of culture and art. This is why we are very happy and excited to be able to join forces with everyone present here, and to be part of this new era for the artistic community”, said Roberto Campa, Director of Corporate Affairs at FEMSA.

‘The first rain in the desert. FEMSA Collection-IECG Dialogues’ is an exhibition of painting, photography and sculpture by artists from Cuba, Coahuila and Guanajuato which are also part of the collections of FEMSA Collection and the State Institute of Culture of Guanajuato (IEC). It will be available until April 30, 2022, at Casa Conde Rul Museum.

This exhibition takes literature as a starting point to explore the differences and similarities between two geographies, the island and the desert, as a common thread between the territories of Cuba and Coahuila, the Festival’s guest country and state.

Composed of three nuclei, The desert is an island, A window that overlooks the desert, and The fall of myths, the exhibition travels through geographies, emotions and stories that invite us to reflect on conditions that create new narratives.

The exhibition is made up of 56 works, of which 31 belong to FEMSA Collection and 25 to IEC Collection.

“For more than 40 years, through FEMSA Collection FEMSA has promoted and disseminated modern and contemporary art. Currently, the Collection consists of more than 1,300 art works, which have been shared in the most diverse communities in Mexico and abroad. We are proud that these pieces are part of the International Cervantino Festival, and that they can be enjoyed by the national and international public”, said Lorena Guillé-Laris, Director of FEMSA Foundation.

‘The nature of our encounters. Video art from the FEMSA Collection at the MAHG’ exhibition will present three pieces of video art that come from the FEMSA Biennial Acquisition Fund in its twelfth edition and from and FEMSA Collection Awards. The videos have the human being and his environment as a common point, however each of the artists interprets them from different angles.

This exhibition will be available from October 14 to February 27, 2022 in the roundabout of the Museum of Art and History of Guanajuato, in León city.

For the eighth consecutive time, FEMSA Foundation, Coca-Cola FEMSA and OXXO will serve as official sponsors of the Cervantino Festival. In addition to the sponsorship, FEMSA will also offer the cultural program made up by the exhibitions described above.

The 49th edition of the Cervantino Festival will take place from October 13 to 31, 2021 in the city of Guanajuato. On this occasion, the FIC will be presented in a hybrid format with a total of 110 functions: 81 in the cultural venues of the state of Guanajuato and 29 on digital platforms. As every year, the festival will ofer events on music, dance, theater, literature, visual arts, cinema, photography, digital culture and other artistic disciplines and cultural activities.
