Pachuca de Soto, Mexico. June 02, 2015 – There is a style – beneath a vast number of artistic currents – that renounces any representation of reality and abstains from showing recognizable scenes or objects. Abstract art is an expression full of feelings and emotions, which public new to art find difficult to translate; to help them better understand the messages in these paintings, artist Rosario Guajardo offered a talk entitled “The Language of Abstraction” at El Cuartel del Arte.
Ms. Guajardo presents her work Variations on a Theme (1996) – one of the 42 works of Latin American modern and contemporary art that make up the exhibit “Latin America / Plastic Diversity. FEMSA Collection,” which opened to the public of the State of Hidalgo on March 31. The piece is shown among works of artists such as Carlos Cruz-Diez, Manuel Felguerez, Carmen Herrera, Julio Le Parc, and Vicente Rojo.
Rosa Maria Rodriguez, Manager of Cultural Program at FEMSA, observed, “FEMSA Collection is glad to enhance education by supporting culture and art; thus, we have an extensive program of itinerant exhibits presented both on a domestic and an international level. We value having the presence of such a renowned artist like Rosario Guajardo, who shares her vast knowledge of art with attendees of this event.”
This exhibition is possible thanks to the efforts of the Government of Hidalgo – through the State Council for Culture and Arts of Hidalgo (CECULTAH, for its acronym in Spanish) – and FEMSA, with the support of OXXO.
“It is very important for OXXO to support these types of initiatives, which generate social value in the communities where we are present and offer an important stage to strengthen the dissemination of art in the State of Hidalgo,” said Ruben Muñoz Romero, Manager of the Pachuca Region at FEMSA Comercio.
The exhibit “Latin America / Plastic Diversity. FEMSA Collection” gathers works from prominent artists in various disciplines such as drawing, sculpture, graphic, photography, and painting. A characteristic worth noticing of this show is that we divided it in three theme cores: Figuration, Transition, and Geometrism, intended to take the spectator on a tour of the different ways to represent a figure, the changes and transformations it withstands, all the way down to its geometry and abstraction.
The show offers works created by artists from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela, as well as artists from Canada, Spain, England, and Italy living in Mexico.
