- According to Clean Transportation, between 2011 and 2015 they stopped producing more than 598 thousand tons of CO2 by implementing green technology and hardware in their vehicles
Mexico, DF, October 27, 2015.- For fifth consecutive year, FEMSA, Coca-Cola FEMSA, OXXO retail chain and Cervecería Cuahtémoc Moctezuma, received the Clean Transportation Award, granted by SEMARNAT, due to the implementation of green technology and hardware in the fleet of their vehicles, managed by FEMSA Logistics, who also received the award. These changes have made it possible for them to stop producing more than 598 thousand tons of CO2 in the last four years.
As recognition for their excellent environmental performance, FEMSA Logistics, Coca-Cola FEMSA and Cervecería Cuahtémoc Moctezuma were awarded by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), for reaching the highest rating you can get; OXXO retail chain was awarded for the great environmental performance of its vehicle fleet secondary distribution.
“Here at FEMSA Logistics we are convinced that we must contribute to protecting the environment, and we have adopted a philosophy aimed at preserving natural resources as well as the implementation and innovation of processes than allow us to achieve the adequate standards in environmental matters. Through our “Sustainable Mobility” initiative, we have developed a strategic plan to leverage the use of clean technologies and alternative fuels to reduce our carbon footprint”, said FEMSA Logistics’ Logistics Solutions Director, Alex Theissen.
The Clean Transportation Award is granted by SEMARNAT and SCT to those transport companies that implement clean technologies and alternative fuels in their fleets, as well as operational processes that allow them to optimize fuel use and emissions.
As part of its commitment to the environment, FEMSA and its Business Units, along with CMH, have improved their fleet of primary and secondary distribution technologies and/or hardware, such as protectors integrated to the cabin ceiling, low rolling resistance tires, self-inflating, speed control, low friction lubricants, among others.
FEMSA and its Business Units are founding companies of the Clean Transportation Program and, along with SEMARNAT and SCT, they work with the aim of reducing fuel consumption, greenhouse gases emissions and transport operations’ costs.
As part of its sustainable actions, Coca-Cola FEMSA has the Integral Vehicle Program (IVP), which holds a series of solid initiatives, such as the modernization of the delivery and presale fleet, while allowing them to continue promoting self regulation actions and the adoption of better practices, processes and technologies; at the same time, it seeks to maintain high safety and excellency standards in service through continuous training and certification for their operators.
During the Award Ceremony of Clean Transportation, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy, the National Association of Buses, Trucks and Tractors’ Manufacturers’, the National Trucking Chamber, the National Private Transport Association, as well as representatives of FEMSA and its Business Units, attended the event, which took place at the Museum of the Bicentennial Park, at Mexico City.
