“OXXOs Directed Work Training Center” launched at CREE in Merida, Yucatan

Merida, Yucatan, January 9, 2015.- OXXO acknowledges the talent and capacity of people with disabilities and senior citizens by offering equal job opportunities through its PRO Work Inclusion Program, established by the company in 2001.

With the purpose of strengthening the program for people with disabilities, OXXO -a FEMSA Comercio company- along with Yucatan States local Integral Family Development Agency, launched a Directed Work Training Center at the Rehabilitation and Special Education Local Center (CREE, for its acronym in Spanish) in Merida, in order to boost inclusion at work in the state of Yucatan.

“For us at OXXO, being able to help Yucatan’s community improve its quality of life through the preparation and options in the work field that PRO Work Inclusion Program offers, represents a big satisfaction, because it helps us promote a culture of responsibility and commitment within the citizens that transcends in a society that participates in the inclusion of all members”, says Lucy González Denis, OXXO Manager in Yucatan

This initiative consists of enabling a space that simulates an OXXO store, which becomes the main tool in a training model used to prepare people with disabilities so that they can incorporate into active work, both in our company and in other workplaces. In this way, OXXO contributes to the promotion of work inclusion among potential candidates for the commercial sector.

OXXOs Directed Work Training Center’s main goal is the knowledge of convenience store operations; among the skills that students can develop in the center, are those of customer service and product knowledge, as well as handling and displacement of products.

The first Center was established in 2012 in the state of Nuevo Leon, which was renovated in 2014 and replicated today in the city of Merida, Yucatan.

During 2014, the Work Inclusion Program PRO promoted the hiring of 99 people with disabilities and 397 senior citizens throughout the country; reaching a total of 333 people with disabilities and 1135 senior citizens working at FEMSA Comercio. The company received the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfares “Gilberto Rincon Gallardo” Distinction as Inclusive Company due to these results.
