- Over 5,000 residents will benefit from this project

Aguascalientes, Mexico, August 28, 2014. - With the goal of joining the effort made by the state of Aguascalientes for creating spaces where its residents can spend time together in a healthy and fun way, FEMSA Foundation and OXXO donated 24 water fountains. These fountains will help improve the infrastructure of Línea Verde (Green Line), which is a linear park looking to improve the quality of life of the neighboring communities.
During the event, Evaristo Pedroza Reyes – General Director of the Citizens’ Commission on Fresh Water and Sewage of Aguascalientes County (CCAPAMA, for its acronym in Spanish) – stressed that this contribution from the private sector adds to the “Actions for your Neighborhood” strategy, which aims to raise the levels of wellbeing of the population. He also stated that the company invested an amount of money above half a million Mexican pesos in this project that will benefit the 5,000+ visitors that Línea Verde welcomes every day.
The donation of MX$500,000 will support both the conservation and the sustainable use of water, as well as the improvement of the quality of life of the community.
Gabriela Torres Torres – Head of Water and Sanitation at FEMSA Foundation – said, “We couldn’t have done it by ourselves. It is essential that we can all collaborate, thus the importance that organizations such as FEMSA Foundation, companies like OXXO, and institutions like CCAPAMA and LÍNEA VERDE join the effort of municipal authorities and those managing our resources in order to multiply results and benefits as we see today.”
Juan Antonio Martín del Campo, Mayor, expressed: “This donation of water fountains gives us the opportunity to keep a close contact with you, which has been our promise; I would like to thank FEMSA for this gift, because without a doubt, these water fountains will benefit all people and, above all, this linear park. This is an opportunity to recognize the work that this foundation makes in regards to the care of water through great projects they have put in motion in terms of water conservation.” The mayor also exhorted the neighbors to take care and make good use of this infrastructure installed to benefit their families and all the people who visit this sector of the capital city looking to have fun and perform some physical activities.
The support to Línea Verde through these water fountains is part of OXXO’s Social Responsibility program, which focuses on contributing to the development of the communities where OXXO operates. Thus, OXXO reaffirms its commitment to keep investing in Aguascalientes, looking to promote the growth of the local economy.
Edilberto Márquez Ojeda, Manager of OXXO in Aguascalientes, said that these water fountains are an example of how we can contribute to the constant improvement of the environment by creating an atmosphere that helps strengthen the social bonds among the region’s residents.
During the event, Guadalupe Peralta – a resident of the neighborhood – spoke on behalf of the community members and gave thanks to FEMSA and the County Government for this support.
The event also counted with the presence of José Refugio Muñoz de Luna, Councilman; Jorge López Martín, President of the Fresh Water, Sewage, and Sanitation Commission of Aguascalientes County; Héctor Anaya Pérez, Head of the Executive Office of the Mayor; and the Secretary of Public Services and Director of Línea Verde, Rafael Amhed Franco.
