FEMSA Collection extended an invitation to the public of the state of Oaxaca to reflect upon contemporary art

Oaxaca, Mexico, August 14, 2015. – Today, contemporary art has a conceptual essence sustained on ideas, words, and messages, questioning and breaking traditional schemes. This was the main topic for the dialogue table called “Meditations on Contemporary Art,” which took place during the exhibit “Challenges and Demands. Contemporary Art in FEMSA Collection,” at Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños.

Renowned Mexican artists Emilio Chapela and Pablo Rasgado led the talk looking to generate a dialogue with the community of Oaxaca in regards to the processes of artistic production  in our times.

Ms. Rosa María Rodríguez, Manager of FEMSA’s Cultural Program said, “One of the challenges for FEMSA Collection is to boost education by disseminating and strengthening Culture and Arts; thus, we created a solid program for itinerant exhibits that we show in diverse museums and cultural and educational institutions in Mexico and abroad. For us, it is very important to have the opportunity of presenting the public with opportunities that generate valuable meditations, and even better when these meditations are led by the voice of great talents such as Emilio Chapela and Pablo Rasgado, who shared with us the creative processes they implement in their art.”

“Oaxaca lives through its renowned cultural diversity, it is a mirror of a society where the surreal, the traditional, the fashionable, and – of course – the pragmatic, converge. The multifaceted state of beliefs and tastes fosters an ideal environment for exhibits and activities – like the one we are presenting at Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños – to serve as windows that help amalgamate the cultural expectations of the past with the contemporary,” said Luis Hampshire, Director of Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños.

“OXXO finds great transcendence in supporting these types of initiatives, which generate social value in the communities where we are present while offering a relevant stage to strengthen the dissemination of contemporary art in the State of Oaxaca. We are looking forward to having the support of the State Government, the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Oaxaca, the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños, and FEMSA to perform more activities to promote art and culture throughout the state,” said Ms. Mary Ana Barrios Gallegos, Regional Manager of FEMSA Comercio in Oaxaca.

The exhibit “Challenges and Demands. Contemporary Art in FEMSA Collection” opened in May at Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños and will remain open to the public until Sunday August 16.
