FEMSA and all its Business Units receive recognition for their actions in favor of a sustainable social responsibility

  • This year, FEMSA and all its Business Units received the SRE distinction.
  • PTM® obtained this recognition for the first time thanks to its management of corporate strategic and social responsibility processes.

Mexico City, May 8, 2015.- Due to an excellent management of their sustainability and strategic business processes, FEMSA and all its Business Units received the distinction Socially Responsible Enterprise (SRE) bestowed by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI, for its acronym in Spanish.) FEMSA undertakes Actions with Value looking to benefit Our People, Our Planet, and Our Community, which are the three guiding principles of the company’s Sustainability Strategy.

In regards to PTM® (Plásticos Técnicos Mexicanos,) – leading enterprise in the manufacturing of plastic cases for beverages in Latin America - it received the SRE distinction for the first time this year during the 8th Latin American Meeting of Socially Responsible Enterprises. With two manufacturing plants, PTM® is one of the largest plastic recycling companies in Mexico. During 2014, it recovered and recycled over 14 thousand tons of plastic. 

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola FEMSA, FEMSA Logística, Imbera, and OXXO received the SRE distinction for the tenth time, and FEMSA Corporate received it for the ninth consecutive year.

“Obtaining the SRE distinction encourages us to keep developing sustainable actions, reinforcing our management, and strengthening the transparency of the communication of our results. It further moves us to continue with our expansion strategy, offering increasingly sustainable comprehensive logistics solutions,” said Alex Theissen, Director of Logistics Solutions at FEMSA Logística.

Anik Vares, Manager of Sustainability at FEMSA said, “The challenge is to continue with a transversal consolidation of Sustainability within the company, starting with a business strategic framework including a long-term collaborative vision that contributes to the strengthening of the value chain, ensuring the generation of a greater positive impact on the environment.”

Sustainability is a business philosophy at FEMSA and it has been present since the founding of the company over 125 years ago; it looks to transform the communities where it operates in a positive manner.
