Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico. May 21, 2015.- Looking to offer the public an outlook of the artistic production developed during our lifetimes in 14 countries, the exhibit “Challenges and Demands. Contemporary Art in FEMSA Collection” arrives at the Museo de Pintores Oaxaqueños (MUPO). The show will remain open to the public until August 16, 2015.

Sixty-four works from renowned Latin American artists are part of this exhibition, which offers a tour of the Latin American artistic production through diverse disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, graphic, and installation involving a wide choice of media and materials.

“We extend our appreciation to the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños and to Mr. Javier Villacaña Jimenez, Mayor of the City of Oaxaca de Juarez, for opening your doors so the community can enjoy this multifaceted exhibition that provides an extensive cultural viewpoint of our continent’s contemporary art,” said Ms. Rosa Maria Rodriguez, Manager of FEMSA’s Cultural Program.

The exhibit “Challenges and Demands. Contemporary Art in FEMSA Collection” has four theme cores: Original Forms, which shows works where form and color are the main protagonists and artists use different materials such as tires, slides, jigsaw puzzles, seeds, and fragments of sheetrock; Use and Concepts, which invites to a meditation on the sense of geographical belonging and the political and social implications it implies; Return to Landscape, as it name implies, it discovers landscapes that reflect the impact that human beings have exerted on nature; and Seriality and Objecthood, which provides everyday objects with extraordinary characteristics.

“We are proud to host this exhibit. For us, it is very important to give our community a continuous space for learning and approaching culture. This exhibition justifiably represents this effort and offers an excellent meditation about contemporary art in diverse stages and locations. We would like to thank the support of FEMSA and OXXO in making this project come true,” said Mr. Luis Hampshire, Director of the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños.

The following countries are represented in this exhibition, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, and it includes artists from Belgium, the United States of America, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden who are currently working in Latin America.

Since 2000, through its itinerant exhibit program, FEMSA Collection has shown over 100 exhibits in different cities of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Spain, the United States of America, the Philippines, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Thanks to this program, over six million people have been able to appreciate the richness of the collection.
