Villahermosa, Mexico. November 11, 2014.- As part of the platform focusing on promoting healthy lifestyles and a correct hydration, Coca-Cola FEMSA organized the First Farmacias Unión–Ciel Race, which gathered over 877 runners who travelled the main streets of the capital of the state of Tabasco generating a movement of citizens in favor of exercise.
The athletic competition was divided in two segments: the first one of 8.5 kilometers, which had four categories (freestyle, youths, master, and veteran;) and a 3-kilometer walk, which whole families joined to enjoy a day characterized by an atmosphere of union, camaraderie, and awareness of the importance to perform any type of sports discipline that strengthens the social development of the citizens of Tabasco.
“Coca-Cola FEMSA has developed a wide program of sports activities focusing on the promotion of physical activation and a balanced diet in the communities. We are glad that society is interested in this kind of activities, and above all, that it becomes an event where families spend time together. The athletic races are just an example of the activities we promote, because this year we have put over 1'700,000 people in action with more than 420 sports events such as soccer and basketball tournaments, swimming competitions, yoga and fitness classes, among others. The intention behind these activities is to raise awareness in the community about the value of integrating some minutes of physical activity or sports into our daily routines combined with a balanced nutrition,” said Cristian García de Paz, Manager of Sustainability for Coca-Cola FEMSA Mexico and Central America.
During 2014, Coca-Cola FEMSA helped over 1100 people in Tabasco to get active with athletic races. Practicing activities such as walking and running with constancy may bring important benefits for our health, among them, the proper operation of our heart and lungs because they stay strong and healthy, a better sleep, better weight control, and they can make headaches and muscle pain go away.
Since 17 years ago, Coca-Cola FEMSA supports the largest tournament at junior high school level in the country, the Coca-Cola Cup, which bring together more than seventy-five thousand children every year. This competition represents a great opportunity for promising young soccer players in the country because they are being observed by scouts from professional teams and have a chance of becoming part of a top-level sports institution. This annual initiative aims to promote physical activation and fair competition among the 4600+ teams made of teenagers aged 13 to 15 from 140 cities in Mexico.
