Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, January 23, 2013.- Coca-Cola FEMSA was awarded the 2012 Tlaxcala Award for Competitiveness today by Governor Mariano González Zarur, due to its continuous work for the development and strengthening of key capacities in its operations, particularly the work done in its Apizaco Tlaxcala plant.

The trophy is the highest recognition to organizational excellence awarded by the State Governor to public or private enterprises distinguishing themselves by high performance, competitiveness and a culture for innovation.

Enterprises awarded this recognition are committed to: share and provide other Mexican organizations with information regarding their quality processes as a way to contribute to the country; broadcast key aspects of their systems and continuous improvement processes based on total quality; promote and develop domestic suppliers, in addition to keeping and improving the merits for which they were rewarded.

“We are proud of all Coca-Cola FEMSA´s employees of Apizaco Plant due to their dedication and commitment to quality - reflected in their management processes, administration and production - Coca-Cola FEMSA is awarded the 2012 Tlaxcala Award for Competitiveness today. This distinction is a sign that we are on the right path and it encourages us to simultaneously continue motivating the generation of economic, social and environmental value for the development of Tlaxcala and all the communities where we operate,” said Ernesto Silva Almaguer, Coca-Cola FEMSA Director for Mexico and Central America.

The award evaluation process was divided in two stages: the first stage studied the quality processes of organizations participating in that phase with the assessment of a comprehensive and detailed document based on the Total Competitiveness National Model criteria. This model stipulates that the key to success is within the organization in the management of its resources, either human, material, financial or knowledge and that the generation of competitive advantages is sustained in the development and strengthening of the organization´s key capacities. The second stage consisted of a field trip by the evaluating team in order to corroborate and expand on the information submitted in the documentary phase.

Apizaco Plant is an operation unit pioneering a scheme of Integrated ISO´s (ISO 9000, 22000, 14000, OHSAS 18000) that allows it to work safely, caring for the environment and offering innocuous products in an integral quality system. In addition, it has been recognized as a Socially Responsible Enterprise Concerned for the Environment by the Ecology General Coordination and holds the Clean Industry certification.
