Developing a healthy environment at schools, supporting access to health services, improving hygiene, promoting health habits among children and teenagers.
Due to poor information, a vast amount of children and teenagers are unaware of the consequences arising from deficient nutrition and lack of exercise. Healthy and Active began in 2014 as a joint project developed by FEMSA Foundation and Save the Children; we implemented this program in schools of the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas, Mexico. With Healthy and Active, we look to detect problems of malnutrition, excess weight, and obesity while helping students and parents realize the importance of having a good nutrition and exercising. The first stage of the project consists of campaigns aimed at prevention and raising awareness, and workshops providing both information and training. In the long term, we are looking to generate a permanent change in their lifestyles because we believe positive changes produce a better quality of life.
